Kick off 4th of July celebrations early in Old Sac

Kathryn DeGroot

The 4th of July celebrates the birth of our nation and what better way to get into the spirit than by heading down to historic Old Sacramento. The best part is you can start the party a day early on July 3rd at Red, White & Brews. More than 10 bars within two blocks will be offering $3 American beers. After tossing back a few cold ones, head over to the waterfront for spectacular fireworks show put on by the River Cats after their game. It is important to note that the fireworks are staged for people attending the game, but the majority of the show can be seen from Old Sacramento (Note: If you want to hop in on the game day action, then be sure to get your tickets in advance).

If you’re more of a traditionalist, head down to Old Sacramento on the 4th of July to spend the day with your family. Enjoy lunch at Ten22 or aboard the Delta King. After you’ve finished a hearty American meal, go back in time with a horse drawn carriage ride or cool off on the Sacramento River with a Hornblower cruise. If you need another option, Off the Chain Bike Bus will be doing bike tours in Downtown Sac. With four different times (10 am, 1 pm, 4 pm, 7 pm), there is lots of excitement to partake in! The fun doesn’t stop there, so head over to the home of the River Cats and celebrate 4th on the Field. The event goes from 6 pm to 10 pm with plenty of food trucks and fun for everyone. Fireworks are scheduled to go off around 9:30 pm. Star 106.5 will simulcast to the fireworks show that can be viewed from the waterfront in Old Sacramento, as well.

As always, have fun celebrating the independence of our nation. Make sure to drink responsibly and get home safely #DowntownSac! Cheers to a wonderful 4th of July.
