A Fairytale Brought to Life

Kathryn DeGroot

I must say when I saw the lineup for the 2014-2015 season of Broadway Sacramento I was most intrigued with Cinderella. My inner six year-old self was overjoyed with excitement and I couldn’t wait to see the updated version of my favorite fairytale. Well, let me tell you Rodger & Hammerstein’s Cinderella was definitely one of my all-time favorite Broadway productions.Photo 1003

Filled with quick wit and some memorable one-liners, the cast of Cinderella had me laughing throughout the night. I was very captivated by the modern twists throughout the production that gave new life to a timeless classic that we all know and love. I found it challenging to resist singing my favorite songs such as “Impossible,” “In my Own Little Corner,” and “Ten Minutes Ago” – but I knew I had to spare the people sitting next to me. While I may think I am a Broadway star in the shower or in my car – the sad reality is that I could never do a production like Cinderella justice (ok, I couldn’t do anything justice – I am a terrible singer).

I was in awe during the musical as there were many spectacular visual elements that helped bring Cinderella to life. The scenery was eye-catching the costumes were dazzling. I was astonished that, with a twirl, Cinderella was able to transform from rags to riches right in front of me – it was almost as if it were magic.

Photo 1Being that I am recently engaged, watching this classic love story made me that much more excited to plan my fairytale wedding. Every girl wants to meet her prince charming and Cinderella is the perfect reminder that true love does exist and that the impossible can happen.
