Your Guide to the 2021 Downtown Sacramento Ice Rink

Amelia Chew

This season marks our 29th year at the Downtown Sacramento Ice Rink, and we couldn’t be more excited to offer our vibrant downtown district an enriched holiday tradition for everyone to enjoy. In order to ensure you can navigate through this upcoming season, we as employees of the Downtown Sacramento Ice Rink, are here to recommend some tips and tricks to make the most of your visit here!

Invite the entire family

At the Downtown Sacramento Ice Rink, we pride ourselves on the chance to create a fun, holiday activity for countless families and friends. From children experiencing ice skating for the very first time, to grandparents dusting off their old skates for a nostalgic turn or two around the ice – all are welcome. Make sure you don’t miss a chance to create your own memories with your loved ones.

Pro Tip #1: Book a group reservation to beat the lines!

Avoid Rush Hour

If you are looking for a calmer day to visit the rink, shoot for Tuesday through Thursday, closer to opening time. Make sure you check our days and hours of operation before you visit to ensure you have the perfect day.

Parking

Although we are in the heart of downtown, parking at the ice rink doesn’t have to be a pain! The nearest parking garage is the DOCO East Garage on 7th and K, located across the street with the entry on 7th. You can also park at Capitol Garage at 10th and L St. To make your search easier, we recommend checking out Sac Park to find and reserve a spot.

Other transportation options include utilizing Sacramento Regional Transit (Pro Tip #2: show your same-day ticket and receive $2 off at the Ice Rink!)

Bring Socks

If you don’t own a pair of your own ice skates, you should bring your own socks or be prepared to purchase socks. Nothing dampens holiday cheer like chilly toes!

Check the weather beforehand and dress for the weather!

We can’t tell you how many people come to the rink slightly unprepared for the cold conditions. Check the weather and wear layers!

Read our ice rink guidelines

Everything at the rink is in place for your safety and comfort. With that being said, we know the Pro Tip #3 to visiting is to put safety first by familiarizing yourself with the easy rules on and around the rink. And if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask our friendly staff members!

Check our website for special events and hours

We have a number of special events planned this season. There is something for everyone in the family to enjoy!

Another important reason to check our website is because we post modified hours on there! We do close certain nights for special events.

Make an outing of your ice rink visit

With so much to do Downtown, we encourage you to make an outing of your time at the ice rink. Make it a day in #DowntownSac by checking out some of the booming bars, restaurants, retail shops and workout hot spots for the perfect day out after you take a spin on the ice! View a complete list of open downtown businesses here.

If you are looking to experience more holiday cheer head over to the Old Sacramento Waterfront’s Theatre of Lights that features a live-action retelling of the classic “Twas the Night Before Christmas.” We encourage you to start your trip here and see where the night may take you – just remember, alcohol and ice skating do not mix so plan wisely.

Now that you have exclusive know how to guarantee an excellent experience, we suggest you put it to great use immediately by stopping by the Downtown Sacramento Ice Rink today! Our winter season begins November 11th and we are overjoyed to share the love and tradition for yet another year.
