Downtown Biz Spotlight: Fizz Champagne & Bubbles Bar

Frankie Wenson

“Too much of anything is bad, but too much Champagne is just right.” – F. Scott Fitzgerald

We’re popping bottles in #DowntownSac! This Saturday is National Bubbly Day and in honor of the holiday we are celebrating at the only Champagne Bar in the region which happens to be right here in the heart of downtown. Right across from Golden 1 Center at the Downtown Commons (DOCO) is the home of Fizz Champagne & Bubbles Bar where you can feel glamorous every hour of the day with a glass of Champagne in hand and caviar in the other that you can’t get anywhere else in the area. Owner and Chief Champagne Officer, Raymond James Irwin has been wanting to open a champagne bar in the area since 2013.

“I wanted to drink it [and] I wanted to learn about it and that just kind of became the drink I would always have whenever I went out anywhere and this idea of doing a champagne bar, I just loved it and I wanted people in Sac to have it.”

Upon arrival you feel like you have been transported into something that would be in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. From the blue velvet chairs to the geometric wallpaper on the walls accompanied by paintings of Champagne at all different angles, marble table tops and of course how can we forget the beautiful fixtures hanging from the ceiling. It is the perfect atmosphere to enjoy a unique bottle of bubbly and have a good time.

If it is your first time coming to Fizz we recommend starting off with one of their 4 fizz-tastic flights that consist of 3 two-ounce pours! With 154 champagnes and sparkling wines this will be the perfect way to experience some of the exclusive bottles that they offer and find the taste that best suits your pallet.

Baller | $49

We’re ballin’ on a budget so this flight is perfect because it doesn’t break the bank and you get to try some exceptional champagnes such as Moet et Chandon’s Dom Perignon, Veuve Cliquot’s prestigious 2008 Vintage Brut, and Krug’s sumptuous Grande Cuvée.

Around the World | $20

Feel like you are taking a vacation abroad right in your own backyard when you taste amazing champagne from France, Spain and South Africa right in the 916! Relax, picture yourself on vacation and experience a French Blanc de Blancs by Grandial, Organic Reserva Cava from Albet I Noya and Simonsig’s Kaapse Vonkel Brut which happens to be the first sparkling wine to come from South Africa.

 Rosé All Day | $30

Stop and smell the rosé! This flight offers a Scharffenberger Brut Rosé from Mendocino County, Rosé Champagne from Paul Laurent and of course a Graham Beck Rosé from South Africa.

Champagne in The Membrane | $39

If you are just looking to try some classic champagne from the champagne region, look no further! With this flight you get to try the J. Lassalle Cachet d’ Or Brut, Piper-Heidseick Cuvée 1785 and top it off with a Jacquart Mosaïque.

If you aren’t a fan of bubbles, no worries because Fizz also serves beer! From Bay Brut Cider, St. Bernardus, Tripel Ale, Abbey Ale and more as well as non-alcoholic drinks like Pellegrino, Sonoma soda chardonnay and Sonoma soda rosé. They also offer some small bites to go with your beverage choices such as cheese boards, duck fat fries, oysters, caviar and even avocado toast accompanied by a soft-boiled egg on top.

If you define yourself as a champagne aficionado then there is no reason why you shouldn’t be part of the most exclusive club in town: The Champagne Club! There are four different options for you to choose from based on types of bubbly and how many bottles you get. The club ranges from four different statuses: Champagne Connoisseur, Fizz Connoisseur, Reserve Club and The Baller Club ranging at different prices and you can get two bottles monthly or bi-monthly of some of the best selections of bubbly that Raymond has gone all around the world to pick up and bring back to Sacramento. You also get incredible savings! 30% off bottles on Monday’s and 20% off Mon-Fri, their private room rental fee waived that already saves you $500 and of course a free flight when you come in to pick up your shipment and more.

You can expect to see more Fizz champagne bars pop up in the next couple of years, Raymond’s plan is to expand…possibly even having 10 locations in total! He thinks that Fizz would be a good home in places like San Jose, CA; Scottsdale and Phoenix, AZ; Reno and Vegas, NV and another location as close as the Fountains at Roseville. When you come to Fizz, you know that you are going to be getting amazing options from the champagne and beer to the food they serve. They also strive to keep their prices affordable so that everyone can have the full Fizz experience. Make sure the next time you are headed to an event at Golden 1 Center, shopping in DOCO or just walking around downtown to head over to Fizz Champagne & Bubbles Bar and experience all the fizz-tastic things that they have to offer!
