Your Guide to the Downtown Sacramento Ice Rink

Olivia Cano, Events Assistant

Whether it’s your first trip to the Downtown Sacramento Ice Rink or your hundredth, here are a few tips and tricks to make your visit a special part of your holiday traditions.

The first step to planning your ice rink trip is checking our days of operation, hours, and special event calendar. Throughout the season, there will be a variety of fun family-friendly events, from pictures with Santa to a one-of-a-kind holiday shopping experience. Once you pick a date that catches your eye, mark your calendar and head on over!

Parking at the ice rink can be tricky, but if you’re in the know, it doesn’t have to be! The rink is conveniently located in the heart of downtown, at 701 K St, across from Golden 1 Center. The nearest parking garage is the DOCO East Garage on 7th and K, located across the street with entry on 7th. You can also park at the City Hall Garage at 10th and I St, or Capitol Garage at 10th and L St.  If you still need more options, check out Sac Park to find and reserve a spot.  Other options include utilizing Sacramento Regional Transit (hint: show your same day ticket and receive $2 off at the Ice Rink!), biking to downtown (park your bike at the bike rack located between Starbucks Reserve and Sauced), or using your feet!

Once you get to the rink, make your way to the red Tuffshed, where you will be greeted by a friendly cashier. This is where you will purchase your admission ticket (which includes skate rental), and any other items you may need, like socks or gloves. Pro tip: if you bring your Western Health Advantage membership card or a Sac RT ticket, you can knock a couple bucks off the cost of admission!

What’s 30 feet long, bright red, and the ultimate sign that the holiday season has arrived in downtown Sacramento? Our brand spanking new container housing our skates!

Once you receive your admission wristband, do a 180 and hightail over to the skate pickup window. Don’t know your size? That’s okay! Our staff is trained to properly fit you, so don’t be afraid to ask for help. A couple helpful hints – figure skates typically fit a woman’s foot, and hockey skates typically fit best on a man. You can expect to go a size or two down from your normal shoe size, but fits can vary from person to person, so don’t be afraid to try on sizes until you find your perfect fit!  We only carry whole sizes – no halves – but with skates ranging in size from a youth 8 to a men’s 15, and staff that knows their stuff, you’re bound to find your perfect “Cinderella” skate!

We have lockers available for rent, so if you’re not one to travel light, be sure to grab one so you have safe spot to store your goods before you hop on the ice!

Bringing kids? We also have skate aids available to rent for $5. These bad boys help even the most novice skaters find their groove on the ice.

Once you’ve got your skates on and your belongings tucked away, you’re good to go! If you have any questions during your visit (or just need someone to get the perfect group shot for your Instagram), don’t hesitate to grab a staff member!

As you prepare to leave, we ask that you tuck in your laces and return them to the skate counter. If you rented a locker, be sure to return the key and collect your ID!

We hope you enjoy your visit and make the ice rink a part of your annual #DOWNTOWNSAC traditions. For more information about holiday hours, FAQs, group reservations and more, visit godowntownsac.com/icerink.
