Del the Funky Homosapien at #CIPSAC!

Katie Almazan

The night that underground hip hop fans of the last 25 years have been anxiously waiting for is tomorrow! That’s right, Del The Funky Homosapien will make his Concerts in the Park debut this Friday, June 9. If the overwhelming buzz that has generated since our #CIPSAC lineup announcement is any indication, it’s going to be a huge night at Cesar Chavez Plaza for his return to downtown Sacramento.

Widely known in the hip hop community and beyond, Del founded the influential Bay Area hip hop crew, the Hieroglyphics. His influence has since reverberated beyond the Bay Area as Del gained mainstream fame through collaborations with the Gorillaz and his cousin, Ice Cube (who he also ghostwrote for in the early 90’s).

Del’s upbeat yet intricate rhymes over beats that are grounded in jazz and funk tempos create a unique marriage that not only make him a notable force in the hip hop scene, but also an artist that’s not easily overlooked and hard not to love. Songs like “If You Must” and “Mistadobalina” have garnered millions of views on Youtube. It’s no wonder he’s mentioned alongside big names like E-40 and Andre Nickatina.

The 90’s were considered the “Golden Age” of hip hop and his presence in the scene undeniably contributed to the coining of that decade. The return of Del is in full force so trust us, you won’t want to miss the opportunity to catch him perform for free tomorrow at CIP. Come prepared to get Funky, Sacramento.
