Old Sacramento Speakeasy Tour & Pub Crawl

speakeasy tour BWWith prohibition long gone and Sacramento’s summer nights heating up, a Saturday night spent with a cocktail and splash of history is the perfect recipe for fun.

Sacramento history buff and Downtown Sacramento Partnership guide, Shawn Peter, will take you on a special excursion where you’ll explore prohibition-era watering holes and learn fascinating tidbits about the people and events that shaped Sacramento’s early history.

The tour begins at the speakeasy-style River City Saloon with three additional stops on the tour, including the famed Delta King riverboat, which once served as a ‘floating’ hotspot for illegal drinking, jazz bands, gambling and fine dining. Complete your bootlegging experience with a craft cocktail, which will be available for purchase at each stop.

Tours typically take place on the 3rd Saturday of the month, May through July, rain or shine.

Old Sacramento Underground Tours

Hidden beneath the city for nearly 150 years, Old Sacramento’s underground has long been the capital’s best-kept secret. Underground tour visitors have the unique UGTIMAGELINKopportunity to uncover the facts behind the legends that lie below historic buildings and sidewalks. Tour guests explore excavated foundations and enclosed pathways while entertaining and knowledgeable tour guides recount the tales of the devastation, perseverance, and determination that led to California’s only successful street-raising project. Underground tour guests have a special, hands-on opportunity to learn what it was like to raise and level a building by operating “mini-jacks” during the tours. The interactive experience allows guests to gain an understanding of and appreciation for the ambitious, yet painstaking process successfully completed by Old Sacramento residents and business owners in the 1860s and 1870s. Plus, special “adult only” tours are available on three evenings each week in May – Thursdays through Saturdays — where guides lead guests on special walking tours while sharing some of the dark secrets and racy tales lurking in Old Sacramento’s underground history. All underground tour guests need to check in at the Sacramento History Museum before descending below several historic Old Sacramento buildings and be prepared to walk in areas with uneven surfaces and low ceilings. Advance tickets are recommended and can be purchased at
