Your Guide to Father’s Day in Downtown Sac

Roxanne Austin

With Father’s Day quickly sneaking up on us, we know that some may have been too preoccupied with the hustle and bustle that planning a fun day with dad may have taken the back seat. Don’t despair! We are here to help and have rounded up a few ideas where there is something for everyone.

For a dad that likes bikes and brews… Sactown Bike Bus + dinner at Sauced
Show dad a whole new way to pub crawl. Drink delicious beer and pedal your way to the best bars while enjoying the scenic views of downtown Sacramento. Work up an appetite? Slow down and grab some grub at Sauced BBQ and Spirits for some slow cooked food.

For a dad that’s a kid at heart… Punch Bowl Social
Strike out this Father’s Day… in a good way! Show your dad the new hotspot in downtown while having some fun bowling at Punch Bowl Social. We hear the boozy milkshake is a can’t-miss menu item!

For a dad that could name all the Marvel characters… Oblivion Comics & Coffee + DAD’s
Nerd out this Sunday! Have some coffee and laughs at Oblivion Comics & Coffee where he can embrace his inner geek while sipping on a different kind of brew. After, take a stroll and treat dad to DAD’s on J Street. Chow down on a sandwich or burger (the Blue Collar Dream will not disappoint)!

For a dad that’s also known as “coach”… FIFA World Cup at De Vere’s Irish Pub
Branch out of the ordinary for brunch and get a kick out of the authentic Irish pub eats while watching the FIFA World Cup games together. From corned beef hash to bottomless mimosas, De Vere’s Irish Pub will be the perfect kick-off to your Father’s Day.

For a dad that’s musically gifted… or not… Live music at Torch Club
If your dad is a night owl, take him to Torch Club this Sunday night. With live music after 8 p.m., a band plays the tunes while you provide the vocals. Let loose, get loud, and don’t forget the camera.

For a dad that’s into classics… “Father’s Day Drives”
Take dad for a ride in the hot rod of his dreams during “Father’s Day Drives” at the Cal Auto Museum from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission and rides are free for fathers and members, so take the wheel this Father’s Day and let dad relax in the passenger seat for a change.

For a dad that’s adventurous… River City Shooting Gallery
Embark on an adventure with dad to the wild west! Or at least all the way west until you hit the Sacramento River. Delight in the thrill of firing off a few rounds without having to leave the city or pay the high price of a shooting range. Loser buys candy a few stores down at Candy Heaven… it’s a win-win!

For a dad that wished for the gift of relaxation… Lunch on the water + a movie
Beat the heat and stay inside without skipping out any beautiful sights or excitement. Lunch on the water (with an inside seat) at Joe’s Crab Shack is a delicious way to soak in the beauty of nature without melting in the sun. After, walk a couple blocks to relax and kick your feet up while enjoying a movie at the Century DOCO and XD Theatre.
P.S. The seats recline and they serve beer and wine… what more could you ask for?

For a dad that’s in touch with nature… Sacramento Hornblower River Cruise
Take dad out for a day on the water and experience the historic Sacramento river boat cruise. Get outside, enjoy the weather, and embrace something new with a wonderful view.

For a dad that’s loves history… Underground Tours
Embrace the historian in dear old dad and together explore the Underground Tours located in Old Sacramento. Learn how locals in the 1860s and 1870s overcame a monumental flood which made their mark right here the historical part of Sacramento. Don’t forget photo opps on Old Sacramento’s newly renovated embarcadero!

Whether dad likes to sip wine and kick back, or drink beer and bowl strikes, Downtown Sac is your superior Father’s Day destination this Sunday. But don’t just take our word for it, go see for yourself and experience all that downtown has to offer in fatherly fun!
