October in the arts world is really ARTober – a.k.a. Arts and Humanities Month, so to celebrate, Sacramento365 wants to spread the word all month long.

This month’s creative happenings have a little something for everyone, so get out and embrace, explore, and celebrate downtown’s vibrant and ever-evolving arts scene.

ArtMix: Dance Macabre
October 13
Crocker Art Museum

Looking for some bone-chilling fun? Then head over to the Crocker Art Museum for this month’s ArtMix! Enjoy illuminating storytelling with Posy-Filled Pockets, short films and live performances by Trash Film Orgy, dance to the sounds of DJ Katharos, and resurrect your inner artist during special flashlight tours. Dreadfully dress to impress and enjoy food and drink discounts during happy hour and $5 drink specials all night!

City of Trees Art and Ink Expo
October 14-16
Sacramento Convention Center

This inaugural expo brings together artists from all over the world to celebrate California’s rich art scene, all while fusing fine art with tattoos. Hosted by Joe Swanson of Sullen Radio, this three-day expo showcases music, live painting and drawing contests, and daily tattoo contests.

After a day filled with art and ink, take a short walk to El Rey on K for a high-energy vibe paired with a cocktail-driven menu of delicious Mexican street fare.

Broadway Sacramento Presents The Sound of Music
October 26-November 6
Community Center Theater

The hills are alive! Broadway Sacramento kicks off its 2016-17 season with a brand new production of the classic, The Sound of Music, directed by three-time Tony Award® winner Jack O’Brien. The spirited, romantic and beloved musical story of Maria and the von Trapp Family will once again captivate audiences with its Tony®, Grammy® and Academy Award® winning Best Score, including “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “Edelweiss”, and the title song.

There’s no doubt it’s a Golden October (or ARTober) here in our city and Sacramento365 is excited to have the opportunity to have Bryan Valenzuela as this month’s Featured Artist!

We met up with the Golden 1 Center artist to reflect on his acclaimed, “Multitudes Converge”, and to learn how the Sacramento region is supporting his creative journey.

Our feature story: Taking a Leap of Faith

Thank you from our friends at Sacramento365 for this great blog!
