LEGALLY BLONDE takes the stage at Music Circus

Scott Ford

Kicking off its 66th season in fine fashion, the California Musical Theatre opened with a crowd-pleasing adaptation of the 2001 hit movie LEGALLY BLONDE before a sell-out crowd in downtown Sacramento’s Wells Fargo Pavilion. Featuring a well-rounded cast of seasoned Broadway performers and local audience favorites, Music Circus never fails to deliver a memorable night of world-class performance.

Lauren Zarkin gives a stellar portrayal of Reese Witherspoon’s classic character Elle Woods, UCLA sorority star turned Harvard Law student by showcasing her vulnerability while carrying a lion’s share of the production’s comic relief. Ryah Nixon makes her Music Circus debut and adds wonderful comedic support with her hilarious take on Paulette Bonafonte, Elle’s Boston-bred confidant and hair stylist.

After working its way through a few minor technical hiccups during the first act, LEGALLY BLONDE found its stride after intermission and delivered a feel-good story about the importance of staying true to your beliefs on the path to self-discovery. A beautiful fabric of intertwined storylines came together for a strong finish, providing a solid start to this season’s highly anticipated lineup of shows.
