Guac and Roll: National Avocado Day

Katie Almazan

An important day is fast approaching, a day unlike any other, a day where your taste buds can rejoice and your insatiable craving can be satisfied. This day is National Avocado Day, and it’s coming Monday, July 31st. Being the avocado lovers we are, we decided to celebrate with none other than guacamole! We headed to Cesar Chavez Farmers’ Market to snag some farm-fresh ingredients to create our masterpiece. Below is our favorite, and very simple, recipe to making your own delicious guacamole at home.

What you’ll need:

2-3 ripe avocados

1 lime, juiced

1 small white onion, finely chopped

1 small ripe tomato, chopped

salt and pepper to taste

garlic clove, minced

  1. Peel and mash avocados in a medium size serving bowl.
  2. Stir in 2 to 3 tablespoons of onion and tomato and add minced garlic.
  3. Season with a hint of lime juice and salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Mix and chill for a half hour.

Tip: Leave in one avocado pit to help prevent browning.

Dip with your favorite chips and there you have it, farm-fresh guacamole to enjoy with friends!
