Experience Wide Open Walls

Katie Almazan & Ivy Kolb

Sacramento is becoming a destination for art. Walk down the street and you’ll be immersed with the creative display of highly skilled artists. Their canvas of choice? Outdoor city walls.

Get your walking shoes on and get ready to go on an art exploration – Sacramento is about to get a whole lot more colorful! What once were 40 drab walls covered in dirt and city debris in-between alleyways or on the backs of buildings, are now being prepped to be beautified and transformed into works of art by some of the best muralists in the world.

Last year’s Sacramento Mural Fest has returned due to popular demand and relaunched as Wide Open Walls. This interactive 11-day festival goes from August 10-20th. There will be opportunities for the community to engage with the artists with maps and schedules released so you can watch a mural come to life right before your eyes.

Or, you can book a walking, running, or cycling tour and see all the new mural additions throughout the metropolitan area. Over 40 local, national and international muralists will be participating, and downtown is excited to be among the districts getting a colorful touch.

You’ll want to be sure you don’t miss out on the largest mural festival on the West Coast. Check out the map below to see where the murals will be coming.
