Downtown Sac Farm-to-Sip Peach Sangria

Maria Robinson

Summer is officially here, and there’s no denying that a tasty refresher will help you cool off on those warm – okay, sometimes downright sweltering – Sacramento nights. Our pick: sangria! Made with either white or red wine, sangria is the perfect antidote when the hot weather sets in. Flavor combinations are endless and delicious, especially when you source your ingredients locally.

Because we’re always looking for a reason to celebrate, the Downtown Sac team recently headed to one of our Downtown Sac Farmers’ Markets in search of tasty ingredients to make the perfect summer sangria. If you’ve been to one of our Farmers’ Markets, then you know there is a ton of fresh fruit to choose from, but the peaches were just calling out to us that day. We used a combination of yellow and white peaches, along with oranges and a Heringer Estates white wine to create the ultimate peach sipper. Give the recipe a try and tell us what you think!

Downtown Sac Farm-to-Sip Peach Sangria
Serves 4

Ingredients:
4 peaches
1 orange
1 bottle of pinot grigio
1 small bottle of club soda
2 tblsp agave nectar
1-2 trays of ice (or the equivalent)

Directions:
Head to a Downtown Sac Farmers’ Market for your peaches, orange, and Pinot Grigio, then grab the remaining ingredients at a local grocer. Puree 3 peaches in a blender or food processor then refrigerate. Cut the remaining peach into thin slices. Squeeze juice of an orange into a small cup. Pour agave nectar into the orange juice and dissolve by giving it a good stir. Fill a serving pitcher with ice, then add club soda, peach puree, orange juice/agave mixture, and the bottle of wine. Float peach slices on top, give it a stir, and serve.
