Downtown Biz Spotlight: The Diplomat

Curtis Yee and Danielle Koire

Whether you’re in Downtown Sac as a visiting official from a land far away, or you’re one of the many people who call the grid home, you’ll always be treated with honor at The Diplomat.

Downtown’s newest steakhouse is appropriately situated just a block away from the Capitol with a sleek, modern interior that’s fit for a king or queen.

Though the space is intimate and low-lit, it never feels drab. Leaping out above the gold accented booths are walls of preserved, green moss.

And for patrons who sit outside on the restaurant patio, you’ll be treated to a stunning view of the splendorous building where our legislators are hard at work.

Like any steakhouse worth its salt, The Diplomat carries a wide offering of meats, but we were treated to their 36 oz. tomahawk steak, which our server Mari paired with a 2012 Opus red wine.

If you’re looking for a new happy hour spot, look no further. We happily tested out the $10 happy hour offer of oysters and champagne! You can’t beat this delicious special; stop by 3-6 p.m. on weekdays to take advantage.

Last, but certainly not least, we experienced the height of luxury with a fresh, buttery lobster served to our patio table. The Diplomat offers a $10 whole live lobster special every Sunday (dinner service only). Available to the first 50 diners per day with purchase of entrée, this decadent deal is waiting for you!

Up next, we sipped on cognac while tasting the locally-sourced caviar, bursting with flavor.

With a savory meal, a beautiful view, and good company, we felt like royalty during our time at The Diplomat.
