Dine Downtown: Rio City Café

Danielle Koire

We were lucky enough to preview Rio City Café’s Dine Downtown menu and, trust us, you don’t want to miss out! In case you haven’t heard, Dine Downtown is Sacramento’s favorite ten-day culinary celebration where participating restaurants create divine 3-course menus for just $35.

Located in beautiful Old Sacramento, Rio City’s patio on the river lets you enjoy your delicious food with an equally amazing view. With four main course options and gluten-free choices for all three courses, you’re sure to find something that fits both your wants and needs.

We began with a charred red endive salad, and the warm honey-bacon vinaigrette, bleu cheese, toasted walnuts, and dried cranberries made it hard to not fill up on the very first course!

We then tried two of the four main course options – grilled atlantic salmon and maple-bourbon bistro filet. The lobster cream sauced paired with the salmon was a unique, but welcomed blend of flavors.

The bistro filet, in combination with rosemary bourbon jus, potato gallette, and winter vegetables, won over the whole table! Perfectly cooked with all the right spices, this is a must-have entree.

Finally, for dessert, we had the hard task of taste-testing both options! With a name like “Chocolate Decadence”, we knew we were in for a treat. The flourless cake’s chocolate sauce, salted caramel sauce, and spiced nuts paired perfectly.

Lastly, we devoured the vanilla bean crème brulee. Served with a house-made cookie, you can’t go wrong picking this to finish up your amazing meal.

We’ll let these pictures do the rest of the convincing… remember, you only have through January 21 to try these special Dine Downtown menu creations!
