Cinco de Mayo farm-to-sip margaritas

Kathryn DeGroot

With the weather heating up and Cinco de Mayo knocking at the door, it seemed like the perfect excuse to sip on a refreshing margarita.

margarita cheersDrawing inspiration from Sacramento’s farm-to-sip culture, we set out to make fruity margaritas with berries sourced from our Downtown Certified Farmers’ Markets, which return in full force this week.

Coincidence? I think not. These margaritas are to die for and we aren’t just talking about the tequila and mix here. Nope – these bad boys are made from scratch and, lucky for you, we are letting you in on our secret – here’s how you can revel in the deliciousness:

Downtown Sac Farmers’ Market Margaritas

3/4 c lime juice (about 6 limes)
3/4 c tequila
3/4 c Cointreau
1/2 c mashed fruit from the farmers’ market
Squeeze of agave
Raw sugar

Combine the lime juice, tequila, Cointreau, and agave into a shaker with ice and give it a good shake. Pour into four sugar rimmed glasses filled with ice then top them off with a few tablespoons of fruit from the farmers’ markets. Raise your glasses and toast to a great summer. Enjoy!
