Hand Paper-Making with Jillian Bruschera of the Mobile Mill

In this two-day, weekend workshop, students will gather for an introduction to hand papermaking wherein they will learn how to transform a variety of recycled materials into new sheets of handmade paper. Working with traditional and contemporary hand papermaking tools and machinery, students engage with an ancient craft as to discover its artistic potentials. You will explore paper as both a medium for creative expression and also as a utilitarian object with a rich, scientific history. Students will be encouraged to think about paper as more than just a flat surface. Once mastery of basic sheet forming has been established, you will experiment with decorative applications and dimensional techniques that push paper craft beyond the two-dimensional page.
