700 Block of K Street Breaks Ground
This month construction crews commenced work on the 700 Block of K Street. Once it’s completed next year, it will transform the block with 137 housing units, storefronts on the ground floor and rooftop decks allowing residents will be able to enjoy views of the downtown skyline and State Capitol.
This project is exciting because it encompasses so much of what we want and need in our city – predominantly local retail, mix of market rate and affordable housing and underground parking. Perhaps most importantly, historic preservation of some pretty cool buildings, character, and charm.
The project will consist of between 12-15 predominantly including an all star lineup of predominantly local restaurants, retail, and nightlife.
“We put a great deal of thought into how the project will activate K Street. Specifically, we considered what type of retail lineup and what affordability levels for the housing would be most appropriate. Ultimately, we concluded that a predominantly local retail component below mixed income housing would is the best way to go,” said Bay Miry of D&S Development. “From there, we dived into more specific design elements including inviting retail storefronts, expansive outdoor dining patios, and as many resident amenities as possible.”
